Overview

The Skagit Valley College Bachelors of Applied Science in Management (BASM) builds leaders for the 21st-century workplace by preparing graduates to practice people-first leadership, think in systems, navigate ambiguity, and use technology effectively. The program is structured for accessibility and workplace relevance, offering fully online delivery supported by comprehensive wrap-around learning support.

Students complete practical, hands-on upper-division coursework that emphasizes application of managerial tools, judgment, and decision-making. Courses are intentionally sequenced so that learning builds within each quarter and carries forward across the two-year program. In recognition of the many demands students face, the program uses supports such as consistent pacing and transparent deadlines to foster the conditions that support student success. Students are also invited to join weekly lunchtime online sessions with faculty and peers for added connection and support.

Degree Option

BASM is a two-year, 90-credit degree that offers the opportunity to build skills for leadership success in any field. It is designed for those who have completed 90 college-level credits or an associate degree in any field. This includes degrees that do not typically transfer to four-year institutions, such as the Associate of Arts (AA), Associate of Applied Science-Transfer (AAS-T), Associate of Applied Science (AAS), and Associate in Technical Arts (ATA).

The program offers two tracks: General Management and Healthcare Management. The Healthcare Management track is a non-clinical option that equips graduates for management positions in a variety of healthcare related environments. The choice of track is made at the time of application.

BASM has a selective admissions process and students may only begin the program fall quarter. Prospective students must attend a program briefing to receive application materials. The application and admission process information is available on the BAS application page.

The BASM degree is awarded upon completion of 90 credits of specified 300 and 400 level coursework with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 in upper-level courses. Entry into a Master’s program may require a higher GPA for admission. Students are responsible for checking specific major requirements of graduate institutions.

Cost of Program

Specific tuition information is available at www.skagit.edu/admissions/tuition-fees. Upper division courses carry a higher tuition rate than lower division courses. Textbook costs in BASM should not exceed $50 per course.
